Introversion enables one to experience progress

---------------------------------------------------------
Message for the day 30-06-2011
----------------------------------------------------------
Introversion enables one to experience progress.

Projection: When we are introverted we will be able to check ourselves and progress. Introversion gives us the power to see our own mistake, however small it might be. With the recognition of the mistake comes the power to bring about a change and there is an experience of progress.

Solution: I remind myself that with each mistake that happens, I actually get a chance to learn. When something goes wrong I don't have to feel disheartened but, take it as a learning for my future. This understanding gives me the experience of constant progress whatever the circumstances might be.

Freeing Oneself from Hatred

Rage has many 'offspring' (children), such as hate, anger, intolerance, insistence, irritation, obsession, sarcasm (taunt), envy, the abuse of authority, impatience, the lack of forgiveness. Generally it 'explodes' when we want to control another or when our expectations have not been fulfilled.

Hate destroys your concentration and kills the capacity to act with dignity and excellence. You hate by justifying yourself in the other. You had expectations of them and they have let you down. They have wounded you and broken your heart. You answer this wound with revenge. You have to make them pay for it. You think that way you will do justice. This hate keeps you tied to the person that you hate. Instead of accepting them, forgiving them and letting go of them, you tie yourself to them more, nourishing and increasing the pain and the conflict.

Can hate be justified? Can it improve things? Can hate be healthy in any circumstance? Hate affects your health; it 'poisons' your heart, kills your inner peace and dries you of love and happiness; you stay isolated in your aloneness, filled with that rage.

What Shapes Our Perception? (cont.)

There are four main criteria that may influence how our perception of reality is distorted or altered (changed). We had discussed "Mental Positioning" yesterday. Today we discuss:

Mental Limits

The solution to important problems we face cannot be obtained in the same consciousness (state of mind) we are in when we create them (the problems) – the consciousness needs to be changed to see the solution".

Mental limits are those which we have imposed on our mind.
We create these limits ourselves or they can come as a result of our education, the family environment and the society in which we live.

For example, at work a mental limit is always thinking in the same way. So we always take the same decisions and get the same results. Experience itself may also generate mental limits. You think you know how to do certain things and these convictions act as mental limits. The greater the mental limitation, the greater will be resistance to change.

Due to the mental limits, we usually have a series of readily prepared responses. They are excuses and justifications that provide us with poor results. We are always trying to solve problems using the same formula and this often causes stress because we cannot find the answer.

The main mental limits are related to identity. We create a very narrow and limited image of ourselves. "I am a man", "I am a woman", "I am a Punjabi or a Gujarati", "I'm young", or "I'm old", "I am white or black". The image we have of ourselves may be limited, because we do not have sufficient knowledge of our own resources, virtues, values, and identity.

A deep investigation into our inner selves will help us to change the image we have of ourselves.

The one with tolerance can make difficult tasks easy

---------------------------------------------------------
Message for the day 28-06-2011
----------------------------------------------------------
The one with tolerance can make difficult tasks easy.

Projection: When we accept even the difficult situations that come our way, we can be tolerant towards them. This acceptance will also give us the power to see the positive aspect even in the most negative situations.

Solution: When faced with a difficult situation I need to think of one good thing that will come out of it. When I see the positive aspect I will be able to accept the situation and in fact enjoy whatever life is offering.

What Shapes Our Perception? (cont.)

If someone believes that Indians are very generous, good-hearted people, and they have this ingrained in their subconscious, this thought will form part of their perception of India. Perhaps not only part of their perception: they may even identify fully with this belief. In other words, the thought becomes a belief and finally one identifies with the belief. The same holds true for any negative belief about anything or anyone.

There are four main criteria that may influence how our perception of reality is distorted or altered (changed). These are:

Mental Positioning
Mental position is the internal position from which we see situations, and may be positive or negative.

For example, we are really excited about owning a new car, but after buying it we start worrying about where to park it, if it may be stolen or we might meet with an accident. Another example is that of the professional who has always dreamt of being promoted at work and, when he gets it, starts to fear losing it. According to our mental positioning we experience fear (a negative state of mind) or we feel confident (a positive one). A correct mental positioning broadens our conscience and improves our lives and relationships.

To live in the present in a relaxed way and planning the future with an open and optimistic view, we should be able to free ourselves from preconceived ideas and the influences that dominate our perceptions. To do this, the best mental position is that of being an impartial observer. In this way we can observe, recognize and transform (change) those thoughts, attitudes that cause us pain, anxiety and stress.

Message for the day 27-06-2011

The one with tolerance can make difficult tasks easy

Projection: Tolerance frees the mind of waste thoughts, as there is no negativity towards anyone. Also tolerance frees us from questions about things that are going wrong. When we are free from waste thoughts, we can do our best and thereby ensure success.

Solution: When things go wrong or when someone is creating obstacles in my way, instead of worrying or having questions about it, I need to accept it with the power of tolerance. I need to see within myself what strength or speciality I have that can make me face this situation.

What Shapes Our Perception?

The factors that contribute to creating our perception (way of looking at the self, situations, people, etc.) are our memories, experiences, beliefs, values, people, places, situations and time. Out of all these factors there are two which are chiefly responsible for creating our perception: our beliefs and our experiences.

The first thing you should do is have a clearer perception of yourself. You should develop the perception of who you really are and what your true identity is. This does not refer to the image you see every day in the mirror. Your external appearance or physical beauty, your age, your gender, your occupation, your status in society should not be the basis for your self-perception. You may live with others or alone, have a family, run a business or have a job, which you undertake with responsibility. What is your conscience, however, while you are doing these tasks? This will lead you to a clear perception of yourself.

We have been brought up and conditioned to have a perception of everything that is external: perception of other people at the workplace or in the family, of other countries, of movies, of the country's cricket team, of what our neighbors are doing, of the government and so on. However, the last thing we have a perception of is ourselves. We thus lose the internal link with our own happiness and our own peace. When we re-establish the perception of our true identity (the correct way of looking at ourselves) based on spiritual knowledge, we are capable of recognizing all the false beliefs about ourselves that have taken root in our inner selves. When we discover these beliefs we are capable of recognizing those 'sanskars' of ourselves we need to change.

In the next few days, we shall be discussing in detail a few aspects that shape our perception.

---------------------------------------------------------
Message for the day 26-06-2011
----------------------------------------------------------
Your love for God will make you feel victorious in all situations.

Projection: Your love for God will make you experience His companionship in everything you do. Where there is love there is never a moment of loneliness. Thus you will be able to move forward with courage in all the challenges that life brings.

Solution: Think of one situation where you have found yourself failing. Now think that God is with you to help you in this situation. When you believe this, you will find that you'll get the courage to accept and face the situation. Then you can also work and bring about a change in the situation.

Going Beyond …

If the quality of my thoughts can influence my physical health, the atmosphere around me and my relationships, it will definitely affect my relationship with God. Unlike physics in which dissimilar forces (positive and negative) attract each other, the basic principle of spirituality is that similar forces attract each other. If my mind is caught up in cycles of negativity, the dissimilarity between me and God will create distance between me and Him. With the awareness of being a soul, a being of spiritual energy, spiritual light, I begin to have a certain amount of mastery over my own thoughts and their quality. Also, the process of finishing negativity is accelerated. Just stepping away from the limited consciousness of the body and bodily connections (not leaving them) stops negative thinking in the same way as by just putting a switch on, a light is turned on and darkness finishes.

If explorers had never ventured beyond their home countries, they would have remained firm in the belief that the rest of the world simply didn't exist. In the same way, if I allow myself to stay only within the physical and limited sphere of thinking, then I would declare that there is nothing beyond. It is when I make the effort to go outside the boundaries of my previous thinking, that I have the chance of discovering more. The quest for a source of love, truth and beauty – the Supreme eventually brings me to the necessity of looking beyond not only my own body, but also other human beings and matter itself. Through the practice of seeing the self as an eternal soul and disciplining my mind I create the possibility of discovering the existence and nature of God and having a deep relationship with that One.

The one way to change others is to deal with them with love.

---------------------------------------------------------
Message for the day 25-06-2011
----------------------------------------------------------
The one way to change others is to deal with them with love.

Projection:
When you have love for others, you will have good wishes for them. Your desire to change them will then be for their good and not for your own selfishness. Others will quickly respond to your unselfish love and you will find them changing.

Solution: Think of one person you want to bring about a change in. Before you think of changing that person let there be a lot of love for that person in your mind. Also make sure the change you want in the other person is for his own good and not for your own selfish reason.

Self Esteem
Self-esteem comes when I really value myself: When I place value on myself, then others, too, will value me. When I don't value myself, how can I expect others to value me? If I continuously put myself down, saying 'I'm no good' or 'I am not capable', other people who hear this will start believing it. So what do I do? The key word is 'consciousness'. As I start to become make my consciousness positive by creating positive thoughts many times in the day about myself like "I am the most fortunate soul in the universe" or "I am a victorious soul, I cannot experience failure in any step in life" or "I am a self sovereign soul, ruler of my sense organs" or "I am a destroyer of obstacles" or "I am a spiritual rose flower who spreads the fragrance of divine qualities" or similar thoughts, I become spiritually alert, then I am in a position to start valuing my life and as I start valuing myself, I develop self-confidence. The effect of this is that I start valuing others, understanding that everyone has their own position: not higher or lower, just different. Each one's uniqueness has its value.

---------------------------------------------------------
Message for the day 23-06-2011

It is only when you have love for yourself that you can forgive yourself.

Projection: Love gives you the power to forgive. Just as you find it easy to forgive a person you love, when you have love for yourself you can forgive yourself too. It is only then can you find yourself learning and progressing without making yourself heavy.

Solution: When you find yourself making a mistake, remind yourself that if you have to progress you have to forgive yourself. Learn from your mistake in such a way that you never repeat it and forgive yourself. Then you'll be able to move forward with lightness.

What Shapes Our Perception? (cont.)

There are four main criteria that may influence how our perception of reality is distorted or altered (changed). We had discussed "Mental Limits" yesterday. Today we continue to discuss the same:

Mental Limits (cont.)

Trapped by mental limits, some of which were discussed yesterday, human beings in general only use 10 per cent of their inner potential, and the other 90 per cent is available but is not used due to oversight (overlooking) or the lack of awareness that they have it.

Meditating helps us to cross these mental limits. Meditation takes us to a higher dimension over our physical identity that releases us from these limits.

Throughout our lives, and especially during our childhood, many impressions are formed about ourselves, since at the very beginning of our lives we do not know who we are or who we should be, until we learn it from those around us, who are older, and who know more things and who presumably love us.

One of the biggest mistakes we can make in our lives is to refer only to the opinions of others to work out who we really are.

When a parent or a teacher tells a child, "You are very naughty", "You are ignorant", or "You are lazy", this child is creating negative and false images about himself. It is quite possible that the child has said or done something wrong, but this does not mean that because of this they are naughty. It was their behavior that was bad. It is important to establish the difference between, "You are a naughty child", and "It is not right to scold your younger sister".

Due to the fact that many people confuse behavior with the person, negative beliefs are created that are not based on what is true and genuine, and these beliefs may be dragged along throughout the person's life – which then function like mental limits in the life of that person.

Given below is a simple meditation commentary which can be used to heal the physical body.
Think slowly and visualize side by side each positive thought given below before moving on:
I sit quietly and turn inwards........
I visualize a pinpoint of light, a sparkling star, the source of pure energy that I am........
located in the center of my forehead........
In this awareness, white rays of the divine light of purity from me extend into my entire physical body in the form of a laser beam........
These vibrations of purity soothe, heal and energize my physical system........
The impurities, toxins and illnesses in the body are being washed away and thrown out from the extremities (corners) of the body........
The body starts experiencing its original inner beauty........
It returns to a state of harmony (peace), to a state of good health......

Projection: Love makes us free from expectations, which enables us to accept
people as they are. The more we go within ourselves we are able to discover our
own strengths. We will automatically be a giver in all situations and we can
tolerate very easily.

Solution: Let me think of one person in whom I am not able to tolerate some
quality. I then need to tell myself that just as a mother accepts her child even
with weaknesses, I will accept this person as he is. When I change my attitude
towards that person I can be tolerant.

Improving The Quality Of Different Areas Of My 'Karmas' (cont.)
Karmas as spiritual service of others
Service of others can be seen on a very basic level as physical charity but the
real service is to uplift the souls of others by inspiring them to re-claim
their state of self-respect. There is the old saying that if I give others
chapattis, I feed them for a day. If I teach them how to cook chapattis, I feed
them for life. In a spiritual way, this refers to the fact that instead of
merely performing a positive 'karma' like the donation of money, food, clothes,
etc. if one can show others the understanding of 'karma' and how it works and
also teach them the ultimate, pure karma of coming closer to the Supreme on a
spiritual level, they can make efforts to change their negative karmic situation
and bring happiness, peace and positivity back in their lives. When there is a
change at the mental and emotional level, then changes will begin to show at the
physical level too. Over a period of time, due to understanding spiritual
knowledge (as a result of which the soul starts performing positive actions) and
a deep connection with the Supreme (due to which negative actions or sins
performed in the past are burned up), the karmic situation of the soul, which
has been served, starts improving.

Tolerance enables one to learn from mistakes.

Projection: When one is sure of what he is doing and he is in his stage of
self-respect, criticism can be taken in the right way. This will give the
ability to look within when something goes wrong. Instead of justifying mistakes
there will be the ability to learn from them and improve.

Solution: When someone criticises me, I need to remind myself that I have
something to learn from it. Let me ask myself if there is at least a small
aspect that I could learn from and incorporate in my life. Let me take this
aspect and leave the rest.

Improving The Quality Of Different Areas Of My 'Karmas' (cont.)
Karmas performed for leisure or entertainment
When someone says they don't have time for meditation or for their spiritual
development, it generally reflects an unwillingness to face the self rather than
an actual lack of time. The fact that average T.V. viewing time in many
countries runs to more than 15 hours a week tells its own story. To the extent
that I value my time, I value my life and make myself valuable. Valuing my time,
energy and money is very much a part of the whole karmic story of give and take:
what they are used for, how well they are used, whether they are wasted and so
on. Difficulties with time, one's own bodily energy and finances are the fruits
of past indifference or wastage of these resources (either in this birth or
previous births). The world financial crisis is the karmic sum total of all such
individual difficulties. Am I using all that I have in a worthwhile way? Am I
just wasting it or am I using it for benefit for myself and for others? These
questions, answered correctly, often spell the difference between success and
failure.

Improving The Quality Of Different Areas Of My 'Karmas' (cont.)
Karmas performed for the self
If I, the soul, am the master of my body, then I have to look after its upkeep.
The consciousness with which I feed and take care of the body has to be such
that my actions don't bring me into further attachment to it. They have to be of
such quality that they bring me closer to God and help to reduce my bodily ego
or the pull towards physical desires. I have to work, cook, feed and wash the
body but these activities can be done in such a way that they bring me closer to
my destination of perfection, of freedom and of liberation.

Karmas in our relationships
There is specific energy that drives all relationships - that of credit and
debit, give and take. These are the so called karmic accounts that have been
created in the past (either in this birth or previous births) and which now
determine the quality and quantity of all our interactions and their results, in
terms of joy or sorrow, in all our relationships. It's not necessary to find out
exactly what the karmic root cause of a problem in a relationship may have been.
A very simple guideline to improve the quality of our interactions is:

Rather than take, let me give, so there won't be any further debts. Whether it
is colleagues at work, family relationships or friends, let me see if there is a
way in which I can fulfill my responsibility with integrity and honesty. If I am
not doing that, if I am moving away from my responsibilities, I am adding to my
karmic burden. In what way can I give or serve, so that there is no longer
conflict, tension and struggle but just sweetness and respect in my
relationships?
